Pair of Murano Glass Wall Lights by Mazzega, Italy, c. 1970

€3.500,00

A pair of sculptural wall lights by Mazzega, built around alternating bands of smoked and clear Murano glass. Each hand-formed element is shaped with a bark-like texture and gently undulating profile, creating a layered composition that changes as light passes through the glass. The brass-toned metal structure remains discreet, allowing the materiality of the glass to define the object.

Founded on the island of Murano, Mazzega became one of the leading producers of Italian art glass lighting during the second half of the twentieth century, collaborating with designers who explored the expressive possibilities of textured and coloured glass. These sconces reflect the company's distinctive approach, where hand-worked glass is treated not merely as a diffuser but as the central architectural element of the fixture. The alternating tones and irregular surfaces transform illumination into a play of transparency, shadow, and reflection.

Cultural Habits is a space for those who see objects not as possessions, but as silent carriers of meaning. Our curator's view is drawn to objects where aesthetic form meets cultural significance. When we see the balance of form and essence, we meet true beauty. An artifact is more than just an object. It is memory and thought embodied in an object. It is the ability of objects to tell stories — without words, through surface, weight, silence.
