Working between painting, performance, and action-based abstraction, Barcelona-based artist Maria Seltsova develops a practice centred on gesture, corporeality, and the physical construction of the painted surface. Influenced by body art and action painting, her work explores repetition, movement, and emotional release through layered interventions of colour and line. Seltsova’s work has been presented in performance and exhibition contexts including Venice International Performance Art Week (2017), LOOP Barcelona (2017), and a 2024 performance at MACBA in Barcelona as part of Lydia Ourahmane’s 108 Days programme.
This monumental 2019 composition unfolds through dripped paint, rapid linear gestures, and dense overlapping layers spread across a dark atmospheric ground. Electric passages of blue, orange, white, and pink move rhythmically across the surface, allowing structure to emerge through accumulation rather than fixed composition. The scale of the work reinforces its physical presence while preserving the immediacy of the painting process.
