François Laloux moved between painting, writing and the speculative world of the Collège de ’Pataphysique. A 1945 exhibition in Reims and his presence in the early Salons des Réalités Nouvelles place him within a French avant-garde circle where abstraction was never only formal, but also intellectual, playful and unstable.
Created in 1960, this ink and wash composition approaches landscape through atmosphere rather than description. Broad washes of black ink are layered with fluid brushwork and darker accents that emerge and dissolve across the surface, while translucent passages allow the paper itself to become an active part of the image. The composition suggests the rhythm of a landscape without defining its contours, balancing spontaneity with careful control of tone and texture.
Signed and dated lower left and bearing an Archives de l’Organon label on the reverse, the work comes from the collection of Thieri Foulc (1943–2020), an artist, publisher and member of the Collège de ’Pataphysique.
