Pieve di Cento nelle fotografie di Paolo Monti (Silvana Editoriale, 1995)

€15,00

Pieve di Cento nelle fotografie di Paolo Monti – it’s an intimate photographic portrait of Pieve di Cento, a historic town in Emilia-Romagna, as seen through the lens of Paolo Monti. Monti (1908–1982), widely regarded as one of the most important Italian photographers of his generation, was renowned for documenting Italy’s architecture and urban heritage. In this volume, Monti’s sensitive study of the town’s medieval streets, architectural details, and daily life blends documentary clarity with artistic expression. The project reflects Monti’s role as a photographer-conservationist who, from the mid-1960s onward, was often commissioned to catalogue the historic centers of Italian cities and towns. As a result, this Pieve di Cento series stands as a charming, lesser-known gem in Monti’s oeuvre – a body of work that truly captures the soul of an Italian town and preserves it for posterity.

The book was published by Silvana Editoriale in 1995 (on the occasion of a local exhibition curated by art historian Andrea Emiliani) and is now long out of print, making it a delightful find for collectors of photography and regional Italian history.

Cultural habits

Cultural Habits is a space for those who see objects not as possessions, but as silent carriers of meaning. Our curator's view is drawn to objects where aesthetic form meets cultural significance. When we see the balance of form and essence, we meet true beauty. An artifact is more than just an object. It is memory and thought embodied in an object. It is the ability of objects to tell stories — without words, through surface, weight, silence.
