Published by Éditions Hologramme in 1987, André Kertész: Soixante-dix Années de Photographie presents a broad survey of the photographer’s work across seven decades. Drawing on images made in Hungary, Paris and New York, the volume traces the development of a photographic language that helped establish photography as an independent artistic medium during the twentieth century.
Rather than focusing on a single period, the publication follows Kertész’s career from his earliest photographs in Hungary to the mature work produced after his move to France and later the United States. Essays, chronology and carefully sequenced reproductions place the photographs within the broader context of modern photography, reflecting the growing institutional recognition of Kertész’s influence during the final years of his life.
Produced with particular attention to printing and presentation, the volume combines high-quality reproductions with a restrained editorial design characteristic of major photography publications of the period. The large format and generous image layouts allow the photographs to retain their quiet observational character while emphasising the relationship between image, sequence and book form.
