Connaître Picasso – L’aventure de l’homme et le génie de l’artiste (1974) offers a comprehensive journey through both the personal life and the creative genius of Pablo Picasso. Authored by art writers Domenico Porzio and Marco Valsecchi with a preface by renowned painter Renato Guttuso, the book combines biographical narrative with artistic analysis across three in-depth essays, a detailed chronology of Picasso’s life, and sections of the artist’s own reflections alongside contemporary testimonials. Originally published in Italian and presented here in French by Hachette, it is richly illustrated with roughly 140 full-page color plates and numerous in-text black-and-white images that chart Picasso’s vast body of work. The volume itself is a large quarto format (~29 × 23 cm) with 269 pages, allowing the artwork reproductions to appear in generous, high-quality format. The tone of the text is engaging yet scholarly, reflecting on Picasso’s evolution with clarity and reverence – especially poignant as it was published shortly after his passing in 1973. For the collector or art enthusiast, this book stands as both an accessible introduction and a valuable vintage tribute to Picasso’s extraordinary legacy.
