Henri Michaux: Les Estampes 1948–1984 (Cabinet des Estampes du Musée d’Art et d’Histoire, Geneva / Patrick Cramer Éditeur, 1997)

€120,00

Henri Michaux: Les Estampes 1948–1984 (Cabinet des Estampes du Musée d’Art et d’Histoire, Geneva / Patrick Cramer Éditeur, 1997) is a comprehensive catalogue raisonné documenting nearly four decades of Michaux’s creative output in printmaking.  As a poet-painter, Michaux believed that writing and visual expression sprang from the same creative impulse, and throughout his career he experimented with inventive techniques (from copper engravings and lithography to heliogravure and even drawing on stone or zinc with autographic paper) to achieve his desired effects.  The included texts delve into these themes, illuminating how Michaux’s prints complement his poetry and solidify his unique place in 20th-century art.  Compiled by Rainer Michael Mason and Christophe Cherix, this volume goes far beyond a simple inventory of works; it offers an immersive journey through Michaux’s imaginative world. Detailed entries cover 212 lithographs, engravings, and illustrated book plates produced between 1948 and 1984, including Michaux’s experimental series of “papiers translucides” and “papiers autographes.” . Insightful essays by Bernard Gheerbrant, Christophe Cherix, and Mason follow the catalog section, shedding light on the intersection of Michaux’s literary and artistic pursuits.
