A striking mid-century Murano glass pendant chandelier designed by Carlo Nason for A.V. Mazzega (Italy) in the late 1960s. This sculptural hanging lamp features a tiered design of hand-blown Murano glass elements . Each glass shade was crafted using the pulegoso technique – trapping countless tiny air bubbles in the glass – which gives the diffusers a textured, semi-opaque quality and soft ambient glow when lit. The shades graduate in size and stack neatly on a central metal frame, creating an elegant cascading silhouette. The metal hardware is finished in chrome, complementing the translucent glass and reflecting the refined Space Age aesthetic of the era.
Throughout the 1960s–70s, Nason created innovative floor and pendant lamps for Mazzega that are now highly sought after by collectors. His designs are known for their original yet timeless curves and superb craftsmanship, making him a key figure in Italian mid-century modern design. This chandelier is a perfect embodiment of Nason’s design philosophy – blending traditional glassblowing techniques with sleek modernist form – resulting in a functional art piece that remains visually captivating decades later.
