His work was subsequently included in the 1965 École de Paris exhibition in Biarritz and San Sebastián, and in an exhibition of contemporary French figurative painting in Tokyo in 1971. This exhibition history places him within a wider artistic community whose work continued to explore recognisable subjects through individual approaches to colour and form.

In Les garrigues, Clamagirand approaches the scrub-covered hills through a dense, broken handling of oil paint. Earthy greens and greys are interrupted by vivid yellow, with individual touches retaining their edges across the uneven surface. The roughness of the terrain finds a counterpart in the material itself: dry-looking passages, thicker accents and broadly brushed areas remain visibly distinct. Within the modest scale of the canvas, the landscape has a substantial, almost tactile presence.

Details:

Artist: Roger Clamagirand (1920–1979)
Title: Les garrigues
Period: 20th century
Medium: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: H 36.5 × W 49.5 × L 4 cm
Origin: France
Signature / inscriptions: Signed lower right; titled on the reverse.
Condition: Light wear consistent with age.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0900/0540/6023/files/ART-100_02_RogerClamagirand_Lesgarrigues_OilLandscape.jpg?v=1793616703
