Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, she exhibited regularly with the Salon du Sud-Est and at Galerie Transposition in Paris, and was selected for the Biennale de Menton in 1969. Her work is held in the collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon.

In this landscape study, muted blue-grey and warm ochre meet in broad, overlapping brushstrokes, interrupted by rust-orange and small accents of brighter blue. Thinly brushed passages sit alongside more densely worked areas, giving the painting a direct, exploratory character. The landscape remains loosely defined, with colour and gesture carrying as much weight as the suggestion of place.

The sheet comes from a group of landscape studies retained in the artist’s studio and subsequently passed on by inheritance.

Details:

Artist: Ariane Prokhoroff (1926–2018)
Title: Landscape Study
Date: Undated
Medium: Painting on paper; precise medium to be confirmed
Dimensions (framed): H 33 × W 37.5 × D 3 cm.
Origin: France
Provenance: Artist’s studio; subsequently by inheritance
Condition: Light wear consistent with age
